Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have any preferences when it comes to age, gender, or ethnic/racial background?
When we completed our home study, we were approved to adopt either an individual child or a set of 2 siblings aged newborn to 3 years old. We are primarily interested in newborn adoption, but are open to twins, siblings, or one child in that age range.

We will happily accept and love a child or children of any gender, and have no preference to one gender over another.

Children of all colors, shapes, and sizes are welcome in our home We have no preferences when it comes to ethnic/racial background. We feel that we are in a particularly good position to care for a child of a different ethnic or cultural background, especially given Mercedes' mixed heritage from her biological father and Reed's extensive experience abroad.
What are your thoughts on open adoption?
Since there are often improved mental & even physical health outcomes for adoptees who have some degree of openness with their birth family, we're interested in exploring an open adoption!
That being said, we realize that every circumstance is unique. We want whatever relationship that is best for the child & expectant family. That could be open, closed, or somewhere in between. We're happy to work with expectant parents & families to find the right balance for all of us.
Do you have any deal-breakers?
We are firmly rooted in our religion, and plan to raise our children in our faith. Of course, the children will have a choice too, but if religion is something an expectant family doesn't want in their child's life, we understand and respect that, but we likely are not a good fit in that case.
We will happily welcome children into our home with a broad range of medical and emotional needs. However, there are a few conditions that we would not be able to accommodate in our current circumstances - primarily those that would require permanent major changes to the home (our home is not wheelchair accessible & can't have major structural changes as it is a townhouse), or conditions that pose a significant risk to other children in the home. Any conditions that might fall into these 2 categories would be evaluated on a case by case basis to make sure that we can meet the child's needs.
